God’s impeccable timing

Last week was one of those weeks. If you are in ministry, or in any kind of leadership, you have had those weeks.

Weeks when people react in ways you find irrational. Weeks when your best laid plans seem to be falling apart. Weeks when you wonder about your vocational path and think that WalMart greeter position looks pretty attractive.

Then God shows up and makes gives you a perspective adjustment.

At the very end of Reunion’s Father’s Day service Amy and I were ambushed. We were called to the front by the speaker of the day, our Children’s Pastor, Linda Ruddell. All of our Leadership Team co-laborers came up with cards celebrating our 38th Anniversary (coming this week, on June 25) and hugs. Those cards had wonderful expressions of love and support written inside along with gifts of cash and gift cards. The congregation followed them, filing by to love on us, bring offerings, and whisper some kind, loving things in our ears as they hugged Amy and I.

Those kind of boosts — shows of support, expressions of appreciation and love — mean more than the money… though the money was great, too, coming just before a trip to California. It also served as a reminder to me as a leader to be more public and profuse with my own appreciation toward those who serve faithfully alongside us.

God’s timing is impeccable.
