Hawaii SB69

My heart breaks for this state I love. The people of Hawaii are so wonderful that they deserve so much more than the politics of paternalism. Being under single party control for so many decades, with an increasing dependence upon the government from cradle-to-grave has rendered the majority of the people of Hawaii incapable of imagining how free people live.

SB69 is but one example. Introduced by state senators Will Espero (D-19), Rosalyn Baker (D-6), Brickwood Galuteria (D-12) and Josh Green (D-3), SB 69 — all Democrats because Republicans are scarce as hen’s teeth in the People’s Republic of Hawaii — the bill seeks to add even more restrictions upon the Constitutionally guaranteed right of free citizens to keep and bear arms.

Hawaii is already among the hardest states in the nation to keep arms, and it is practically impossible to bear arms here. Not only does the Chief of Police refuse to issue Concealed Carry Permits because the law here says “may issue” and not “must issue,” but open carry is prohibited. In other words, fully exercising one’s Second Amendment right to both keep AND bear arms is severely abridged in this island state.

SB69 is no doubt believed to be well-intentioned by its sponsors; I don’t attribute evil intent to them. I think they are simply reacting emotionally to the beating drums of the media campaign to disarm the population, despite the rational, legal and statistical facts in support of free people bearing arms responsibly.

Keep in mind that this is one of the places in which a group of people were once systematically rounded up and involuntarily interred by the government. Wake up, citizens of Hawaii.
