The Easter Message problem for Pastors

Okay, all you pastors who might read this: fess up. If you have been at this for a while, you’ve seen a bunch of Easters come and go, and you’ve told the Resurrection story each year as best you can. Maybe it’s just me, but, Easter and Christmas always cause sermon writer’s block.

I read a lot of what others have written, look at “sure-fire outlines” hyped for sale, study, reread the account in the Gospels… and yet…

I am not content to dust off a moldy-oldie sermon from a previous Easter so every year I spend days agonizing over a fresh approach, a new way to tell the old story. More than one Easter it has all come together at the very last minute, and this looks like, sadly, it might be one of those years.

  1. Yeap, been there done that, honestly this year I just didn’t see a fresh approach, and I had struggled with it up till the very last minute, and actually during the worship had something just dropped into my Spirit that fit right into what I had prepared, but took it a whole new direction. I would have been much more comfortable receiving that a little earlier, but it blessed me.
